AHMAD IZHAM OMAR NAMED EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF CONTENT & CREATIVE OF DISNEY+ IN SOUTHEAST ASIA

Singapore, 17 November 2020 – The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia today announced the appointment of Ahmad Izham Omar as Executive Director of Content & Creative of Disney+, with effect from 17 November 2020. In this new role based in Singapore, Mr. Omar will be instrumental in building a world-class portfolio of TV series and movies for Disney+ in Southeast Asia. He will report to Amit Malhotra, Regional Lead, Emerging Markets, The Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific.

“Izham is a proven leader in the entertainment and media space, and a man of exceptional talents,” said Mr. Malhotra. “He joins the team at an important juncture when Disney+ is expanding its footprint in Southeast Asia, and his strategic vision, breadth of experience and outstanding leadership will be key in steering Disney’s creative engine and delighting subscribers with the magic of our storytelling.”

Mr. Omar will be responsible for developing and producing original programming as well as acquiring content, ensuring end-to-end title launch readiness. He will also oversee the production of surround content for major sports and general entertainment programs.

He joins Disney from Media Prima Berhad, where he was CEO of Primeworks Studios (PWS), Malaysia’s largest production company specializing in producing feature films, television content, animation and music for international audiences. He began his media career in 2003 by launching the iconic 8TV and has held senior leadership positions within Media Prima, including launching a top-class streaming service called tonton. He is also a multi award- winning music producer, arranger, songwriter and musician, having worked on albums with artistes such as Faizal Tahir, Siti Nurhaliza, Too Phat and Relish. Mr. Omar was awarded the Most Promising Entrepreneur Award by Enterprise Asia and the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Voice of Independent Music Awards (VIMA) for his contribution to music.

Mr. Omar has a Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music and an MBA from Suffolk University.
